Get It Done

You wake up, grab coffee, and dive into work.
It feels efficient. But somewhere between 10am and noon, the fog rolls in and you can’t quite explain why.
The fix is not more caffeine or a better morning routine. It’s something simpler, older, and completely free. And most people walk right past it every single day.
Get 10 minutes of morning sunlight, ideally within the first hour of waking.
1. Morning sunlight triggers a cascade of hormones, that tells your brain “the day has started.” Without this signal, your brain stays in a half-groggy state for hours, quietly costing you the sharpness of your peak morning window. That is 60 to 90 minutes of foggy output during the hours that should be your best. Ten minutes outside gives you back a full morning.
2. Morning light also sets your circadian rhythm for the entire day, which means better focus in the afternoon and deeper sleep tonight. Deeper sleep means a sharper tomorrow. It is a compounding return: 10 minutes today saves you 30 to 45 minutes of afternoon fog and protects 30 to 60 minutes of tomorrow morning’s focus.
1. Tomorrow, before you open your laptop or check your phone, step outside for 10 minutes. A balcony, backyard, or short walk all work.
2. Skip the sunglasses. Your eyes need to receive the light directly, though never look at the sun. Just being outside is enough.
3. If mornings are dark where you live, sit near a bright window or invest in a light therapy lamp. Not perfect, but a strong second best.
Your brain runs on light before it runs on coffee.
Ten minutes outside is one of the smallest habits with one of the biggest returns. Try it for three days and notice how much sharper your afternoons feel. This is what the Energy step in Get It Done is built around: giving your body the simple inputs it needs to make your best hours actually feel like your best hours.
“But I don’t have 10 extra minutes in the morning!”
Those 10 minutes are not extra. They are an investment that returns hours of sharper thinking later in the day. You are not adding 10 minutes to your morning. You are trading them for 60 to 90 minutes of clearer focus by noon.
As promised — 1 minute that can save you hours

P.S. Fun Fact: Stanford neuroscientist Andrew Huberman has popularised the research showing that morning sunlight exposure is thousands of times more powerful than indoor light for regulating the brain’s internal clock. A cloudy day outdoors still delivers around 10,000 lux, while a bright office lightbulb tops out at about 500. The reason your grandparents seemed to sleep better and wake up sharper is not nostalgia. They spent more time outside, mostly in the morning, without realising they were quietly optimising the most powerful productivity system ever built: the human body.
