1-2-3: The “No List” That Gets More Done Than Your To-Do List

sent by Joaquín Kosegarten | August 19, 2025

Every second counts, so let’s get right to it. 1 idea, 2 ways it saves you time, and 3 steps to Get It Done:

1 Idea

Make a “No List” — a short list of things you deliberately don’t do — so you can protect your time and focus for what matters most.

2 Ways it saves you time

1. Eliminates low-value distractions – Every task you say no to is one less thing draining your time and mental bandwidth.

2. Sharpens your focus – By clearly defining what doesn’t deserve your attention, you create more space for deep work and meaningful progress.

3 Steps to Get It Done:

1. Write your personal “No List” – Example: No checking email before 10am. No meetings without an agenda. No multitasking.

2. Keep it visible – Post it near your desk or add it to your daily planner to keep your boundaries front and centre.

3. Update it – As your schedule shifts or distractions evolve, refine your list to match what’s actually stealing your time.

Conclusion

Sometimes the smartest thing you can do is decide what not to do.
Fewer distractions = more focus, more done, more peace, more time.

“But what if something on my ‘No List’ is urgent?”

If it’s truly urgent, make a conscious exception. But most of the time, “urgent” just means someone else didn’t plan ahead. Don’t make their chaos your default.

As promised — 1 minute that can save you hours

P.S.  I put “no unnecessary meetings” on my No List. Now every calendar invite makes me feel like Liam Neeson — I will find you, and I will decline you.
