Get It Done

Every second counts, so let’s get right to it. 1 idea, 2 ways it saves you time, and 3 steps to Get It Done:
Stop your work sessions while a task is still slightly unfinished so your brain stays engaged and wants to return to it.
1. Your brain dislikes unfinished tasks. This is the Zeigarnik Effect, which keeps ideas active in your mind until you complete them. Leaving a small part undone makes it easier to restart later with stronger focus.
2. You avoid the slow warm up that usually happens when you come back to a task. Instead of figuring out where to begin, your brain picks up right where it left off, which saves time and boosts momentum.
1. When you are nearing the end of a work session, stop at a natural halfway point instead of finishing the task completely.
2. Write a short note about the exact next step you will take when you return.
3. When you sit down again, read your note and begin immediately without thinking or planning.
Open loops give your brain a reason to stay ready. This simple trick makes it easier to start, easier to focus, and easier to finish.
“But I’ll worry about it all night if I leave it unfinished.”
Only if the next step is unclear. When you stop midway and write a short note about exactly what you’ll do next, your brain relaxes. The worry comes from uncertainty, not from the open loop itself.
As promised — 1 minute that can save you hours

P.S. Fun fact, the Zeigarnik Effect was discovered when psychologist Bluma Zeigarnik noticed that waiters remembered unpaid orders perfectly but forgot them the moment the bill was settled. Your brain is wired to keep unfinished tasks active, which is exactly what makes this hack work.
